About Skyview Counseling

Skyview Counseling is a Christ Centered, Biblically based counseling practice that is located in Vancouver Washington. Therapy is based on a modified version of Cognitive - Behavior Therapy called "Heart Therapy". The primary therapist is Ross Gunn III. (See Counselor Info.) The goal of Skyview Counseling is to provide the client a safe and healthy place to develop a new perspective on life while seeking to resolve their unique issues and problems.

The Counseling at Skyview Counseling is focused on a heart change, not just a change in behavior. This heart change comes from developing a healthy relationship with God, while understanding and applying His Word. The Bible describes man as being made up of three key components: Spirit, Soul and Body (Gen.2:7; Deut. 6:5-6; Jer. 17:10; Lk. 251-52; I Thes. 5:23). The Bible also states that man has a heart - the central place where he keeps all that he treasures. Often our treasures are made up of things & events that are positive and things & events which are damaging and painful. Our heart acts as our "system software" that runs our whole life. In addition, man's spirit and the Holy Spirit (for those who have trusted in Christ as Savior) dwells in the heart of man. The soul of man is made up of three parts: our mind, emotions and will. Our body and our behavior reflect that which we experience inside of us. For out of our heart come our thoughts, feelings, choices and our behaviors. These behaviors then impact our relationships. For true behavioral change to take place in a person's life, first their heart must be changed then their thoughts, then their emotions, then their choices and finally their behavior. As hard as we try we can not change our hearts apart from God, for God is our Creator and only God can change our hearts - if we let Him.
