Statement of Faith
I believe ...
The Bible is the Word of God
1) That it is
God’s special revelation to man. It is God communicating His message of
the Good News of the Gospel to a lost world.
2) That it is
"God breathed" and is without error. It is inspired - meaning that
God superintended human authors so that, using their own individual
personalities, they composed and recorded without error in the words of the
original autographs His revelation to man.
(1 Jn 5:9-13; II Tim. 3:16-17; II
Pet. 1:20-21; Heb. 4:12)
In One God
1) Who is holy,
infinite and personal, creator of all things, who, as the Trinity, exists as One
God eternally in three persons -- the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
2) He is the all
powerful, all knowing and always present sustainer of the universe. His just
and loving purposes are always accomplished.
(Gen. 1:1-2; Deut.
6:4; II Pet. 1:17; Heb. 1:3 - 8; Acts 5:3-4; Matt. 28:19)
In the Lord Jesus Christ
1) Who is 100% God
and 100% Man. He is the God/Man. He is God’s one and only Son, the Lord
God, Jesus the Christ.
2) He shared with His Father and
the Holy Spirit in the creation of the heavens and the earth.
3) He was conceived of the Holy
Spirit and was born of the Virgin Mary.
4) He died as the
final sacrifice for our sins and rose physically and spiritually victorious
from the dead.
5) He ascended into
Heaven where He intercedes for the saints.
6) He has given
gifts to the church: apostles, prophets, evangelist, and pastor-teachers for
the equipping of the saints for the work
of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.
7) He will personally return at the
Second Coming for His Church.
8) He will judge the Living and the
dead.
(John 1:1-3,
5:21-24; Matt.1:20-25; Heb. 7:25, 10:11-14; I Cor. 15:3-11; Acts 1:9-11; I
Thess. 4:13-18)
In the Holy Spirit
1) He
convicts the world of sin so that they might see their need for Christ’s
gift of salvation.
2)
He is active in the lives of Christians.
3)
He indwells, teaches, empowers, equips and enables God’s people.
4)
He baptizes believers into the body of Christ.
5)
He distributes individually the spiritual gifts for the common good.
(Jn.
16:8-15;
There is an enemy of God - Satan
1) He is a
created being, a fallen angel, who now opposes the living God.
2)
Because he is a created being, he is not all knowing, all-powerful or always
present.
3)
He is a liar, the accuser of the brethren, the tempter and the deceiver of men.
4)
His final judgment is certain. He will be thrown into hell for eternity.
(Matt.
4:1-11; I Pet. 5:8-9; Rev. 20:10; Ezek. 28: 11- 19; Is. 14: 12-23)
In Man
1) Who was created
in God’s likeness in order to glorify God and to enjoy fellowship with
Him forever.
2) Who was created
as a trichotomy - Spirit, Soul {mind, emotions, will} & Body. (Genesis 2:7;
Luke 2:52; I Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12.)
3) That Adam and
Eve’s sin originally effected and corrupted the whole human race. Thus
separating sinful man and mankind from the holy God.
4) But because of
God’s incredible gift of Christ dying on the cross for our sins, man now
has the choice to either accept God’s gift by faith or reject it. As a
result of this choice man will either live eternally with God in heaven or
eternally apart from God in hell.
(Gen.
1:26-27; 2:7; Rom.
In Salvation
1) Salvation
involves two seemingly opposing elements: A) The Sovereign will of God; and B)
The free will of man to respond to the grace of God by either accepting or
rejecting Christ’s redeeming work on the cross. The Scriptures teach that
God chose us "before the foundation of the world", while also
teaching it is our responsibility to respond to His message in faith.
2)
Salvation is by God’s grace and is received through faith in Jesus
Christ.
3)
Salvation is only through Christ’s atoning death on the cross. Not works.
4) By receiving
Christ’s gift of salvation, we are acknowledging our sinful nature and
our need for Christ’s atoning work on the cross.
5) True salvation
will demonstrate it’s self in a changed life that will reflect the
character of Christ and the fruit of the Spirit. (Eph. 1:3-13; 2:8-9; Rom.
3:21-28, 5:1, 8:31-39; Titus 3:5-7; Jn. 10:27-29, 14:15; 15:1-17; 17:3; Gal.
5:16-26)
In The Church
1) The
Church is the spiritual body of whom Christ is the Head
2)
The family of all who have been born again.
3) Whose mission
is to reach the world with the Gospel, to win them to the Kingdom, to nurture
new Christians, to help them walk in the Spirit, to disciple them in the essentials
of the faith, to equip them for ministry and to send them back into the world
to stand for Jesus.
4)
Whose ordinances are baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
(Eph.
1:22-23,
In the Resurrection
1) The
physical resurrection of the body.
2)
Believers will be raised to eternal joy and unbelievers to eternal misery.
3)
God is the Rewarder of those Christians who have been faithful, obedient and
loving.
(Jn.
5:28-29; I Thess. 4:13-17; Rev. 20:11-15).
In the Rapture of the Church and then the Return of Christ
1)
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ will return physically, just as He ascended
into heaven.
2)
Christians are to watch and expect for our Lord’s return.
3)
We should be prepared, even though we do not know the exact day or hour of His
return.
4) The specific
issue of the exact time of the rapture of the Church and the return of Christ
has been a point of controversy between Godly theologians for years. There are
many excellent arguments from all sides and truthfully it has been an area that
I am still researching. It is my current understanding that the Scriptures
teach that the Church will experience part, if not all, of the seven years of
tribulation. However, there are indications that the Church may be raptured
before God’s final wrath is poured out on a apostate world near the end
of the tribulation period.
5) The Scriptures
teach that Christ will return after the tribulation but before His millennium
reign on earth. After His millennium reign there will be the final judgment of
unbelievers, the creation of a new heaven & earth and the beginning of our
eternal state with the Living God.
(Dan.
9-12; Matt. 24; Jn. 14:3; Acts 1:11; I Thes. 4:16; II Thes. 2; Rev. 22:20)
